Installation
Plank Flooring
Planks should be laid on a prepared and level sub-floor. We will inspect the sub-floor and advise accordingly, and will carry out any necessary preparation. The planks are fixed directly to 12mm/18mm plywood with nails and adhesive, after which they are sanded, filled and sealed. On concrete sub-floors we can fix the planks with adhesive, though the width of the plank should not exceed 150mm unless they are specialist or other engineered boards.
All planks will be installed with an expansion gap to the perimeter of the area. The skirting will be fitted after the installation in order to conceal the gap. In situations where the skirting is not being renewed we will fit the flooring under the existing.
We are able to level existing timber and concrete floors if this is required. Once installed, they are then sanded, filled and sealed. We should lay our floors after all other trades are finished on site. We will advise on which seal would be appropriate for each project.
Projects vary and we are used to working with Main Contractors on large sites as well as Private Clients.
Parquet
The parquet should be fixed with a recommended adhesive onto Far Eastern Plywood or onto a latex levelled concrete sub-floor. The thickness of the plywood should be 12/18mm and fixed at 150mm centers. All sub-floors should be levelled, where the skirting is not being re-fitted after laying the floor, we will fit the parquet under the existing. Parquet can be laid in a variety of patters and different sizes are available.
Sound Insulation
We are able to advise on all alternative methods of sound insulation of both concrete and timber sub-floors. We will take into account the existing floor levels, overall ceiling height, alterations to skirting and architrave, internal and external door thresholds, under-floor heating and the specification of the timber floor to be supplied. Our team of floor layers is experienced in installing various sound insulation systems.
Sub-Floor
The panels should be laid on a minimum thickness of 12mm external Far Eastern Plywood. We would always advise that plywood is our preferred recommendation of installation. Though 18mm is recommended where the site circumstances allow. However, we will also lay on 18mm chipboard, which is a less expensive option, should the client or architect request this. The plywood will either be fitted to existing joists, floorboards or a concrete sub-floor. Where height becomes an issue we can lay our panels directly onto a concrete sub-floor, first applying a suitable latex compound to ensure an even floor.
Under-Floor Heating
Under-Floor Heating, electric or water, is compatible with parquet and plank floors. However, where we are laying a plank floor the board widths should not exceed 150mm, except where we are installing a specialised engineered board which can be fitted up to 300mm wide. Polestar can advise the client with regard to different makes of systems available and these works can be carried out through our building side.
