Installation
All the floors must be laid to a prepared and level sub-floor. This work can be carried out by Polestar or by the Client’s own contractor. Once the positioning and setting out of the design has been agreed, the Panels, Borders & Centrepieces are then fixed with the appropriate adhesive to the prepared sub-floor. Once installed and time allowed for the adhesive to set, the panels are then sanded, filled and sealed. Filling is especially important, as each gap between the different timbers must be filled with the correct colour wood dust to match the timber the tradesman is working with. Advice is available on which seal would be appropriate for each individual project. All hardwood floors should be laid when all other major trades have completed on site.
Sound Insulation
We are able to advise on alternative methods of sound insulation for the both concrete and timber sub-floors. Our floor layers are experienced in installing various sound insulation systems and we are frequently asked to carry out this element of the project.
Sub- Floorr
The panels should be laid on good quality external Plywood, a minimum thickness of 12mm though we recommend 18mm where the site circumstances allow. The plywood will either be fitted to existing joists, floor boards or concrete sub-floor. However, where height becomes an issue we can lay our panels directly onto the concrete sub-floor, after first applying a suitable latex compound to ensure an even floor.
Under-Floor Heating
The panels are suitable for under floor heating systems, either electric or water, though we must be advised of this at the outset as different adhesives are used. We can advise on the systems available, and if required this work can be carried out through Polestar.
General Comment
It is strongly recommended that when the floors are completed and other trades will be on site, adequate protection is laid. We are happy to advise on this aspect and are able to install a suitable covering.
